Mammography
Mammography is a low-dose x-ray of the breast used to find cancer and other problems in the breast. The technologist places the breast between two flat surfaces which are gently pressed together to flatten the breast to an even thickness. This compression is done to obtain the best x-ray image possible and to lower the amount of radiation necessary for the image. Mammography has long been recognized as an effective tool in the early detection of cancer. To further improve diagnostic accuracy, Bustleton Radiology utilizes computer assisted detection (CAD) in the interpretation of all mammograms. This highly sophisticated instrument scans mammography images and points out possible abnormalities offering the interpreting radiologist a high tech tool to enhance cancer detection.
Bustleton Radiology offers the GE Senographe DMR, one of the finest mammography technologies, which enables us give patients the best possible breast evaluation. The GE Senographe DMR features the bimental x-ray tube that tailors the x-ray exposure to the type of breast being examined in order to optimize image quality at a lower dose. For dense breasts, the rhodium track reduces dose by up to 40% without compromising image quality, reduces exposure time by up to 25%, and minimizes the motion blurring that can necessitate retakes. Full compression of the breast last just seconds with the GE DMR because it releases the breast the moment exposure is complete.
Our mammography technologists are subspecialty trained and certified, and receive continuing education in mammography on an annual basis. Bustleton Radiology regularly receives the highest possible score in Mammography by MQSA FDA Mammography annual inspections.
Breast cancer strikes one in every eight women in the United States. It is, however, one of the most treatable forms of cancer, and early detection is the key to the best possible results. Bustleton Radiology believes in patient education. Mammography patients are shown a video demonstrating Breast Self Examination techniques and are provided with a host of educational pamphlets and other materials to read and take home to share with their family.
Dexa Bone Density
Osteoporosis is a threat to over 28 million American and is often misdiagnosed and inadequately treated. Avoid the threat of breaking a bone due to osteoporosis by scheduling a DEXA scan. DEXA is an advanced technology that safely, accurately and painlessly measures bone density and mineral content to determine the risk of developing osteoporosis. It only takes minutes to complete a scan, yet it can determine the current status of your bones and your risk of developing osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to become more porous, gradually making them weaker, brittle and prone to breaking. Women over 50 years of age and who are past menopause are most often at risk for osteoporosis. Since the effects of bone loss are silent, early detection and treatment are especially important. With DEXA, your doctor is better equipped to detect and treat bone loss in its earliest stages, so as to prevent the disease or lessen its impact.
Ultrasound
Breast ultrasound is used as an adjunct to mammography and physical examination. It can help decide if a biopsy is necessary for suspicious breast lesions. The number of breast biopsies can be reduced by up to 40% with the use of breast ultrasound techniques. We are the only imaging facility in Northeast Philadelphia and one of only two in the city of Philadelphia accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for breast sonograms.
